can I use nail glue for dip nails

Whether you’ve run out of your base dip liquids or you’re experiencing a bout of the “dip flu”, sometimes you just want an alternative to your normal dip liquid routine. So can nail glue work for dip powder nails? We’ve tested it out for you, so you don’t have to!

What is nail glue?
First, let’s specify what “nail glue” we are talking about. Nail glue is often used to apply false nails or embellishments (such as rhinestones or crystals) to the nail. They typically come in very small bottles, so if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to your usual dip liquid, you’re probably out of luck there.

What you probably didn’t know is that nail glue is made out a few of the same ingredients you find in your dip base liquid!

So can you use nail glue to apply your dip powder?

We tried it, and it didn’t work well. Because nail glue is a much thinner, more liquid-y consistency than dip base (which is thicker) the powder didn’t have enough substance to properly stick. So we ended up with a thin blotchy coat of… powder. It looked like we’d glued powder to our nail. It wasn’t a pretty look!

Okay, then what can I use instead of the dip base liquid?
Well, it really depends on why you’re trying not to use the dip base. Dip base is different between nail powder brands. If you’re having an allergic reaction, try finding a 9-free or 21-free dip base to use. These contain less harmful ingredients than other dip liquids.

The best application method for dip powder is to use your base dip liquid. There’s no better alternative.

I used Kiss brush on nail glue with dip powder and activator, then used a uv top coat to finish off and they came out perfect just like they were done at the salon! I was shocked but am so happy
